Teaching seasons through use of Coggle.it app

TOPIC: Season
CLASS: IV
SUBJECT: Science

HOW I CREATED THIS MATERIAL TO TEACH MY LESSON?

I created concept map through use of Coggle app. Coggle is a web-based tool that enables users to create mind maps simply and effectively. This allows users to share and comment on each other's maps. It is a unique platform allowing people to manipulate their form to fit their thinking process and thinking desires. The teacher can use this tool to frame lesson plans. students can also use it to plan events and programs.

Following are the processes and steps to use Coggle.

1) First, in any search engine, type the address www.coggle.it

2) The above-mentioned link will take you to the homepage of coggle. To get access to the coggle. you will first have to sign in. For that, click on the Sign up now dialog box.

3) To log in, click on Sign in with Google. This will give you an option to fill in your email ID and password. Therefore connect via your email ID.

4) After signing in, before taking you to the main homepage, there will be a display of a set of dialog boxes to choose from. from these options, click on the most appropriate one. since you are going to use it while teaching and learning, click on Education and then Teacher. Then click on Concept maps. Then you will be directed to the main homepage. From there click on Create Diagram to start mapping.

5) Now the main concept mapping begins here. In the title box, enter the main title for your Diagram. For example, if you are going to plan about the trip to Taktsang, type it as a visit to Taktsang or Trip to Taktsang, either way, you find it comfortable.

6) From there, we can do many things. We can branch out from every Topic and Sub Topic to join as many words as possible. We can also insert images and icons. To branch out from the main topic as well as the sub-topic, simply click on the Plus(+) button that appears after the line/box when you hover the mouse over.

7) To insert images, click on upload the image icon in the text box.

8) To Delete Segments, simply right-click on them and click the X button.

Note: You can also invite your friends to edit the diagram in the coggle. it. To do that click on the plus sign at the top right corner.

When and Why can we as a teacher use the Coggle.it in the classroom?

This can be both beneficial for self and as well as to involve students. While planning the lesson, we can use this to jot down the important and main ideas and activities. Later, we can simply look at the mapping and get an idea of what to do in a class in a snap. We can also plan the trips and events with students. The students can give one look at the concept mapping and get an idea about what they are supposed to do. Coggle also makes sit great for students to work in cooperative groups to show understanding or depths of knowledge. By using this concept map teacher can use in all three stages of lesson delivery like it can be used in lesson introduction to introduce the topic, it can be used in lesson development to teach about the concepts through use of diagram, branching off ideas and lastly it can be also used in lesson closure to make their understanding through graphic organizers. Using this, it helps young learners to enhance creative problem solvers, good way to mix multiple list types,  makes interactive mind maps, arrange notes and help learners in visualizing the concepts for longer duration.

This is the concept mapping I worked on for the title Season

ACTIVITY

Name of activity: season clock craft

This is a great craft which you can hang on the classroom walls and update each season or even each month. Before class there are a few things you will need to prepare:

  • cut large circles out of construction paper or white cardboard – enough for each group of 3 or 4 students. This will be the base of the season clock.
  • for spring, you’ll need different colored paper or card: reds, pinks, blues, greens – students will cut into flower shapes (for really little ones you’ll have to cut flower shapes out yourself before class)
  • for summer, you’ll need sand or yellow glitter (you can get from craft stores) – students will make a beach scene
  • for autumn, you need different colored paper or card: dark reds, oranges and browns – students will cut into leaf shapes (for really little ones you’ll have to cut leaf shapes out yourself before class)
  • for winter, you’ll need cotton wool / cotton balls – students will make a snow scene with this.
  • you’ll also need glue and pens or even paint if you wish

Put the class into groups of 3 or 4 and give out the materials to make the season clocks. Start off by getting everybody to draw 4 lines from the center of the circle to the outside, so that you create 4 different areas (one for each season). Write the word for each season in each segment. If you have taught months, get everybody to write the months in order around the edge of the clock, with 3 months in each segment (you can just use the first letters of each month), so that it looks like the image below:

Do the "Seasons Clock" craft

Now comes the fun part – everyone is going to get creative and decorate the clock – cutting out flower shapes and gluing onto spring, cutting out leaf shapes and gluing onto autumn, making a beach scene in summer (put glue on the paper and then sprinkle over the sand/glitter to make the beach – use blue colored pens or paint for the sea) and gluing cotton wool for snow in winter. Let everyone add extras, e.g. a big sun in summer, seasonal clothing, etc.

Do the "Seasons Clock" craft

When everyone has finished, stick the crafts onto the wall and give each team a pin (or something sticky, like glue) to place in the season (or month) that it is now. In future lessons you can refer back to the clocks and have your students move the pin as the seasons (and months) change.

Video lesson on classroom instruction using Camtasia studio

TOPIC: Classroom Instruction

CLASS: PP

SUBJECT: English

I chose class PP English on topic classroom instruction where I made a video lesson by using Camtasia studio. This lesson provides the beginner learner to comprehend the lesson on classroom instruction. The main objectives for this video lesson are that by the end of the lesson each child should be able to tell at least 2-3 classroom instruction, identify each instruction by looking at the pictures and know what are some classroom instructions.

HOW DID I CREATE THE MATERIALS?

First I chose a topic from class PP English keeping in mind that how effective and interactive the lesson I can make. I thought that my topic should be focused, narrowed, easier to make, and to make more successful instructional content. I found classroom instruction catchier and then created a mind map to visualize what I want to add to a video lesson using Camtasia studio. After that, I downloaded pictures, notes, and GIFs required for my topic. Using the PowerPoint app I made PowerPoint slides to deliver the lesson. With the use of different features like animation and transitions from PowerPoint I successfully made slides. The next step is recording my screen video using PowerPoint slides that are created with the use of Camtasia studio. I started by cleaning up my desktop, closing any applications I don’t need, and turned off any notifications that might pop up. Then I opened my slides and walked through exactly what I want to show my learners. When I was ready, I opened the Camtasia recorder and recorded my screen with voice narration. When I finished recording my screen, it was time for me to get all hacks and slash with editing. I deleted and added some parts of the video, added zoom-in and out effects, and other editing features from Camtasia to further furnish my video lesson. The last step in creating a tutorial is to save the video and produce it in mp4 form. Finally, it was ready to present to the learners.

WHEN SHOULD THE MATERIALS BE USED?

Planning for good pacing, the timing of presenting elements, and keeping kids engaged is crucial to a lesson's success. This video lesson on classroom instruction for class PP English can be used in all stages of lesson delivery like in lesson introduction, lesson development as well as in lesson conclusion. For the lesson introduction, I made slides where students need to predict the topic and their background knowledge is activated by giving hints on the topic. They are asked what the topic is about and then only the lesson is developed. During lesson development, I made use of pictures and GIFs for the relevant sub-topic to make the lesson interesting and comprehensible. There is also one activity added where they are asked some questions and answers are provided after their guessing. In lesson closure, I made a slide where they have to sing a rhyme to recollect what they have learned in previous slides. Therefore this video can be used in whole lesson stages for your teaching.

WHY I USED POWERPOINT SLIDES WITH CAMTASIA STUDIO?

I used PowerPoint slides with Camtasia studio because it gives a solution for recording, editing, and publishing your screen videos. It also allows us to create professional videos that learners respond to, and that they can continue to use long after our video has been shared. With Camtasia, it's easy to create high-quality videos–without formal training. The use of Camtasia studio gives us pre-made animations that take our video to the next level by customizing our animation, create behaviors, or zoom in, zoom out and other useful features. In the PowerPoint slides, I used different pictures and GIFs to arouse the interest of the child as well as to cater to the different learning styles. Especially the visual and auditory learners are helped with the use of this video lesson.

ACTIVITY INSTRUCTIONS:

·        This is an individual activity.

·        Six classroom instructions are given with pictures.

·        You need to look at those six pictures and tell what classroom they are in.

·        The answer will be provided after your guessing.

·        After that as homework you have to list some other classroom instruction that you hear every day in the classroom.

Presenting the lesson through simulation using PowerPoint presentation

Presenting the lesson through simulation using PowerPoint presentation

Topic: Season

Class: III

Subject: English

The topic that I chose for the power point presentation is Season for class III students and the subject is English. I first chose the topic so that the presentation of the lesson will go simultaneously. With the topic being chosen, I then downloaded images, GIFS, voice from WAV format, background voice and clipart that were all related to the topic “Season”. With this resources ready, I then started my PowerPoint presentation. Since the motive was to create a simulation, I created the whole lesson on one slide show. I put every images, GIFs, sounds and clipart “with previous” for a simultaneous display. I started my first slide show with blank colored slide to use as background. In the first slide I wrote the topic, class and subject. The other slides are followed with the description for each season. To put the animation and transition, I used animation panel to adjust the timing. I made use of the animation panel. First topic was kept on click just to make the student guess the topic and after that the presentation continues to slide containing some activity in between the slides where they can solve the activity by pausing for some time. I concluded the lesson with two activities for the students. I used varieties of animation and transitions for each texts to create interesting and attractive PowerPoint presentation, GIFs and clipart to arouse curiosity and enthusiasm from students while teaching.

How do I use this presentation in the classroom?

This presentation can be used in the class when we are introducing the children about the topic ‘Season’ they can use this as an extra reference as this includes graphics, sounds, and letters to simple understand the lesson. This way it will help to cater varieties of student’s needs. Students having difficulty in learning with text can always comprehend from the graphics and voice. Students having difficulty with eyesight can take advantage of the voice being used and vice versa. Therefore, this presentation will help students to comprehend the lesson better which can help to achieve higher grades. Firstly, to make them some prediction, I kept the topic on click where I wanted to ask them what are we going to learn and only after that I will click and show the topic to them. I will make them to watch the pictures and description about the topic “season” and let them solve the two activity provided in the slide by pausing for some time as conclusion of the lesson.

When to use this presentation

I wanted to use these PowerPoint simulation to introduce the topic “season” as these presentation contains all the details about the topic including basic concepts. These presentation can be used in all the stages of lesson delivery like it can be used in introduction, lesson development and conclusion as well. In introduction, I can use these presentation by showing the presentation without showing the topic and let them guess the topic. After that explanation about the topic can be shown by presenting the simulation and in conclusion I will give them the activity individually as well as in group.  These presentation can be also used when student are studying in online classes where they need not have to wait for face to face teaching, rather they can simply use these presentation to explore more about the topic.

UNDERSTANDING TYPES OF TRANSPORTAION THROUGH APP CALLED LEARNING TRANSPORT AND POWERPOINTS SIMULATION.

Technology provides a window to the world and access to thousands of learning resources. Learning to work with technology and using computer coding gives children the skills and confidence to help them get good learning intake and makes the learning interesting. Interactive classroom activities are activities that forgo one-way communication, or individual learning in favor of getting students involved and engaged with lessons or materials. Such a learning strategy helps the learner in better engagement, personalized learning, better collaboration and prepares them for the digital world.

Lesson objectives:

By the end of the lesson, each child will be able to:

  • identify kinds of transport clearly after watching the video and PowerPoint presentation.
  • tell the definition of  Air, Land, and Water transport system with examples correctly after the activity.
  • differentiate land, air, and water transport with examples correctly after the explanation.

TOPIC: TYPES OF TRANSPORATATION

CLASS: IV

SUBJECT: SOCIALSTUDIES

HOW I CREATED THE PRESENTATION

There are many new computer programs created every day and people use them to perform specific activities. There is nothing to discuss with old and familiar apps. However, with the new and complex ones, people need to be trained on how to use them correctly. So with interactive software simulations, users can even actually perform the steps and more interestingly it can also test users' understanding and tract their result easily with different kinds of assessment. While creating this presentation the first and the foremost thing I bared in my mind the pictures and the words that I need to put in my presentation as well as audios. I collected all those materials and added those materials in slides. Each time I insert those pictures and words, I added animation and changed their effect option. To manage those animations and effects I made some on-click animation, with previous and after the previous animation. I added voice and music to make slides interesting.

Why I used an app called learning transport and PowerPoint presentation.

Classroom technology gives individual students more opportunities to actively engage with their learning material, making lessons more interesting and enjoyable. Videos are a great way to present more complex concepts to students, and gamified learning activities can make the traditionally dull task of memorizing the concepts far more appealing with the use of this app and the PowerPoint presentation. Another great benefit of integrating those technologies into the classroom is that it opens up multiple options for students to engage themselves and learn digital skills for them to become productive members of society, such as proper online etiquette, learning how to distinguish good sources from bad ones, and preparing presentations as well. It can also save tons of time and energy by automating, either in full or in part, activities like checking and monitoring their learning. This can also integrate student-centered, activity- based teaching and learning rather than passive listeners.

Activity using the app “learning transport”.

Using the app called “learning transport” we can give interactive activity for students to learn the lesson in better ways. This app got many features where firstly the middle circle, it explains all the lessons i.e types of transportation in detail and the other 7 features are all activity that the students can practice to learn the concept. They are asked to match transport to their shadow in one activity, another activity allows them to drag the pictures towards types of transport, and the other activity was to show the odd one out by differentiating the types of transportation.

To show some examples of how they can do the activity:

 Activity sheet

They can use this activity sheet to further enhance their learning.

NAME:____________                                                                 DATE:_____________

Instruction: color the transport pictures below. use the keywords below to complete the sentence.

car             bicycle                 land                 water                 air             aero plane       land

A ______ moves on _______

An ________ fly in the ________

A ________ moves on ________

A _________ moves on _________

HOW and where CAN I PRESENT OR TEACH THE LESSON.

Firstly using the PowerPoint presentation simulation, I will present the lesson to them and after that with the use of the learning transport app, I will help them to watch the video where all the types of transportation are clearly explained. I will use this Powerpoint in lesson development where lesson information can be added by this presentation and inactivity I will use the app to let the student do an activity. I will use the worksheet for their activity.

LEARNING ABOUT PARTS OF BODY WITH INTERACTIVE PRESENTATION

LEARNING PARTS OF BODY WITH INTERACTIVE POWERPOINT.

Are you tired of delivering the same old lecture on the same subjects year after year? Are you using the same lesson materials over and over and wishing you could make learning in your classroom more interactive? While lectures and lessons can be informative and even “edutaining” when delivered with passion and good materials by knowledgeable experts. But technology is integrated to learn that particular lesson it brings sense of fun and engagement to students lessons. Of course, you do need devices with internet access to give these tools a try. Even if you don’t have computers or tablets available in your classroom, the fact that an in this modern world every students have smartphones where it engages them to access every information on websites. The education landscape in Bhutan and globally is undergoing a major transformation. The pandemic has provided an opportunity for teachers and students on using technology integrated learning has transformed education systems. Thus, I created one lesson integrating technology using PowerPoint where videos, interactive quizzes and audios are used to teach the lesson.

Topic: Naming the body parts

Class: I

Lesson Objectives: By the end of the lesson, each child will be able to:

  1.   identify and name parts of the body correctly
  2. describe the picture appropriately.
  3. write the parts of the body correctly.
  4. follow the instruction carefully.

 Procedure of lesson to learn

Introduction: Depending on what our learner already know, introduce basic vocabulary for parts of body by indicating different parts of our own body and getting learners to copy. I will only introduce the basic parts like head, shoulder, knees, toes, eyes, ears, mouth and nose by presenting the PowerPoint where I created manipulative of labeling of parts of body by the names of parts of body when I proceed my presentation.

Activity:

·         Give learner the activity sheet to label.

·         Play the song of parts of body. Ask learners to listen and touch each part of their body when they hear it in the song. After the song, practice some of the lines together, touching the relevant part of body as you say it.

·         Play the song again and encourage learners to sing along to the lines practiced.

·         Now ask learner to answer the quiz question prepared in PowerPoint presentation. Before they start, brainstorm them.

·         When they have finished, learners can label their skeleton and write about it by doing some research either asking elders or through phones at home.

·         In next class display the labeled parts of body of each learners and allow learners time to look at and read about each other’s write-up.

Worksheet

HOW I CREATED THE PRESENTAION

Recently, we stumbled across a pretty amazing features of PowerPoint- the ability to create awesome videos in next to no time. Videos can really help deliver messages in an interesting and engaging way, and in fraction of time the lesson can be delivered.

  •     The first step is I created PowerPoint slides.  It was a great idea to structure our video with title, body and concluding slides.
  •     I added images, text in slides to deliver the content. I made some simulation to drag the name of parts of body to point towards parts of body.
  •       I used video in one of my slide to switch up my audience’s focus where student are required to sing together with video.
  •      I wanted to involve learners, so I added question and answer session by creating quiz and riddles.
  •     I also added some audio narrative where I don’t have to speak the entire time. In fact, sometimes it can be nice to give ourselves a break and pre-record some of our slides. This is also a great strategy to include for embedded presentation.
  •     I made simple transitions and animations in my slides so that I keep consistency and not to distract my learners.

Using of app called “BODY PART” can also help learner to learn more about parts of body.

It has more features to learn about parts of body and both teacher and learner can use this simple app to learn easily about parts of body. This app has interactive activity as well as teaching tools to learn about parts of body.
